An officer was devastated after parting ways with his K9 affiliate and best friend named Axel. Axel served the Central Falls Police Department for five years and was highly respected by the entire department. Even after his retirement, he remained an important part of the team, making it difficult for everyone when he eventually passed away.
Axel was so excellent at his job that he continued to work beyond the average retirement age for K9 officials. According to a post by Friends of Central Falls Animals, he “had the will to keep going” and made sure the police officers were safe, no matter how dangerous the situation had been. He had such a strong bond with his partner, Officer Decristoforo, and would have risked his life to save that of a fellow officer.
Officer Decristoforo’s first K9 companion was Axel, and when Axel was transferred to another city with a different partner after a few years, some people wondered if he would adapt well. However, Axel and Officer Decristoforo quickly developed a strong connection. When Axel passed away, Officer Decristoforo felt like a part of him was missing and was inconsolable.
The Facebook post concluded with a message for Officer Decristoforo, stating, “Axel loved you more than he loved himself! He was all yours! He would have gone to any length for you. He wants you to help him now! Keep your cool and remember that he would not want to see you sad!”
Axel’s dedication and incredible work will be remembered by the Central Falls Police Department forever. The department was grateful for his service, and Officer Decristoforo will always hold a special place in his heart for his loyal companion.
